Mehler Systems SCILT: a closer look at counter-drone protection

What is Mehler Systems’ SCILT?

Mehler Protection describes SCILT LAND as an active counter-UAV system for protecting land vehicles against small drones, including FPV drones and loitering munitions. UAV means unmanned aerial vehicle; counter-UAV and counter-drone describe the same broad field of protection.

The manufacturer positions SCILT as a final protective layer between wider-area air defence and passive vehicle protection. It combines sensing, control, and active countermeasures on the platform. The public product description also discusses individual and multiple drone threats. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities, rather than a guarantee of performance in every environment. That distinction matters. Passive armour and active protection address different parts of the protection problem. SCILT’s significance is the addition of a dedicated counter-drone capability to the platform-protection portfolio.

From product announcement to vehicle demonstration.

SCILT was presented on the INKAS M1 MRAP at CANSEC in Ottawa on May 27–28, 2026. Mehler Protection described this as the first integration of SCILT on a vehicle platform. This provides a concrete public example of the collaboration behind the product. Read the official CANSEC announcement.

Mehler Protection subsequently presented SCILT at Eurosatory in Paris, including a demonstration with INKAS. Trade-show presentations help illustrate a manufacturer’s development work, but they should be distinguished from independent test results or evidence of widespread operational adoption. SCILT NAVAL extends the product family.

At SMM Hamburg 2026, Mehler Systems announced SCILT NAVAL, a variant developed for close-range protection of vessels against small drones. The company’s announcement describes evaluation against maritime conditions, including salt spray, corrosion, vibration, and wave impact. See the official Mehler Systems announcements.

LAND and NAVAL should be understood as distinct applications within the SCILT family. Information published for one variant should not automatically be applied to the other. The manufacturer maintains a dedicated SCILT NAVAL product page for the maritime version.

A broader view of platform protection.

SCILT shows how Mehler Protection’s portfolio is expanding beyond the armour itself. The useful story is the relationship between established passive protection and newer active systems, supported by identifiable product announcements and demonstrations.

As the family develops, follow the distinction between a concept rendering, a public demonstration, and a documented performance assessment. That makes new announcements easier to interpret and keeps the conversation grounded in evidence.
